The Weekly Pull List – October 19th, 2016

C-c-c-comic books! What are you reading this week?

What’s on YOUR Pull List?

Kate Skocelas

Kate Skocelas

  • Faith #4
  • Mockingbird #8
  • Black Widow #7
  • Batman #9
  • Black Hammer #4
  • Death of X #2 (of 4)

Riddle of the Week:  If Kate is only reading 9 series in single issues, how does she have 6 books coming out this week?

Usually I begin with the book I’m most excited for, but this week it’s impossible to decide.  Faith and Mockingbird are consistently bright and witty.  Black Widow and Batman are full throttle thrill rides.  Black Hammer is the smartest book of the bunch, and Death of X is answering the most important question of all: how is Marvel going to sell us on the Inhumans why does the world hate Scott Summers?

It’s going to be one hell of a Wednesday.

  • Ninjak #20
  • Snowfall #6

One of those weeks that has you checking the next one, just to make sure it isn’t as big.

Recently I’ve been debating a lot whether I prefer Dan Abnett’s “Life and Death” Aliens tale or Brian Wood’s Aliens: Defiance, and I’m certainly spoiled in saying that it’s a tough decision.  However, as of late, I’ve been wondering if Abnett’s tales have been feeling a bit “rinse, repeat” between arcs.  Yes, we’re barely halfway through this grand ride, but I’m feeling it a wee bit with the onset of this third chapter.

Look, as for Batman?  Miss Kate Skocelas kindly hunted down parts two and three of the “Monster Men” arc for me (I, despite my unerringly consistent ineptitude, snagged the remainder), and I shan’t start this new arc without reading that first.  Will say this though: this entire arc, this new one?  All Mikel Janin art.  And as someone who observed his fine work on Justice League Dark and Grayson…the rest of y’all are in for a treat.

Black Hammer and Dept H aren’t just stellar Dark Horse titles…they’re ones that I’m an issue behind on.

We haven’t seen Dr. Silk since, geeze, like Unity Vol 2?  Maybe his appearance in RAI was more recent than that.  Regardless, he’s gonna show up in this week’s issue of Ninjak.  I like the team-up…not so sure this is the best art this book has ever had.

Oh, and Snowfall?  It’s still a thing…apparently.  Hell, I can’t even remember if I read issue five.  I think we got what even constitutes an extended break for an Image book because artist Martin Morazzo did some work on Marvel’s Nighthawk.  First arc was weirdddd…this book has about an issue or two to impress.

  • All-New X-Men #14
  • Archie #13
  • Batman #9
  • Black Hammer #4
  • Black Widow #7
  • Dark Knight III: The Master Race #6
  • Death of X #2
  • Dept. H #7
  • Mockingbird #8

I am real scared of Death of X. I don’t know what’s going to happen and I’m terrified. But I’m still reading. I have to.

Dept. H continues to be the best book in my pull, at the moment. Matt Kindt is unstoppable.

Black Hammer has been a whol e rigmarole of weird super hero tropes and jabs at what we hold dear about our super hero books. Not in a satire way, but in a plain-facts kind of way. Lemire is setting up something very mysterious and I constantly look forward to reading this book.

All-New X-Men is another X-Men book. I don’t know where I stand with the current X-books, but I’m hoping they (or I?) will slip out of this funk soon.

And I’m really behind on Batman. I haven’t read #8 or any of the other Monster Men tie-in books. It’s kind of off putting, but I think this up coming weekend I’ll have to sit down and just binge on everything that’s out so far.
